Humanities Scholars Can Make Their Papers Open Access Now - Rebecca Lea Morris, Inside Higher Ed

While shifting to open access is harder in the humanities, scholars should seize existing opportunities to archive papers in personal or institutional repositories, Rebecca Lea Morris writes. The vast majority of humanities research papers are locked behind costly paywalls. That’s because most humanities scholars do not make their research papers open access, or freely available to readers. According to a 2020 study, fewer than 25 percent of papers published in the humanities are open access, compared with closer to 70 percent in the physical and mathematical sciences.
