CSU Channel Islands to offer two textbook-free majors and has plans for more - Alexa D'Angelo, Ventura County Star

Paying for textbooks can be the straw that breaks the proverbial camel’s back for some college students. On top of tuition and living expenses, affording costly books for each class is a burden students would happily opt out of. Now, they can. At CSU Channel Islands, educators worked to develop two “Z-Majors,” which are majors that use quality, free and readily available educational resources as opposed to textbooks. The courses directly related to the major don’t require the student to purchase a textbook.
